About Fjöruböðin

The small fishing village of Hauganes sits beside the only south-facing sand beach in North Iceland. The shore at Sandvík stays shallow far out to sea, so on sunny days the sun warms the water enough to swim in — you can hardly believe you are bathing in the North Atlantic.

Geothermal water reached the village in the 1990s, and ever since the surplus hot water has run down into the shoreline, creating ideal conditions for bathing. Today there are three hot tubs set into the sand along with a large heated hot-water boat, plus changing facilities and showers.

Each booking is a 90-minute session. Adult entry covers ages 13 and up, children aged 6–12 have their own rate, and children aged 5 and under enter free.

We are open every day from 9:00 to 20:00. The tubs close at 20:00 and cold water runs into them afterwards. Staying in the tubs outside opening hours is only permitted when arranged in advance with a named responsible person.

All guests bathe at their own risk. The site is monitored by camera but is not staffed, and no responsibility is taken for personal belongings left on site.
